Steel.

The sword has to be

tempered,

strengthened – flames wreathing steel.

But it is not weakness,

to submit you are a mortal,

not a weakness to say

“I want to cry.”

Because it is the tears

that tempers the steel

and makes it stronger

than it is.

Fight on, but remember –

our sorrows are the fire

making us resilient,

like Damascus steel.

You will be stronger than

Toledo steel,

Keener and sharper than

The best swords, the great blades,

If you keep your heart pure,

And bright and edged,

If you keep your heart honest,

And simple and unfettered,

You will be strong than

Toledo steel.
